- The Base

- The Tower or Mast
The tower or the mast is connected to the base which gives height to the crane. It has guide and guard rails that guide the elevator. The elevator is important to the operation of construction because it helps the maintenance technician and the operator on reaching the arm of the machinery and the cab from its base.
- The Slewing Unit
The mobile part of the tower crane is the slewing unit. It has the capacity to rotate up to 360 degrees. Slewing is the term used to present the crane’s rotation around the axis. This unit is a combination of set of big motors and gears that help the crane to slew.
What is the Weight Limitation of Tower Crane?
A tower crane can lift at the maximum weight of 18 metric tons. It will not be able to handle heavy weights like the gantry cranes at shipyards. Tower cranes limitation for lifting begins with its base. Each of its component affects the tower crane’s’ load lifting capacity.
Also take note that as the distance from crane centre increases, the quantity of weight to be lifted keeps on decreasing. Therefore, it is much better to lift loads that are closer to the centre of the crane.
